LAST DAY TO ENTERThis is it! The May Long Weekend is almost here and its time show the world you can run 10 miles. Only one thing left to do...sign up! Registration closes on Wednesday May 15 at 5:00 p.m. sharp. Being late this time means you don't get to run and will have to wait until next year. Even if you can't run this year we would like to see you out on the course cheering on your fellow runners. You know what its like to have a course lined with spectators. The race is scheduled to start on Monday May 20 at 9:00 a.m. WHO'S COMINGIn the days leading up to the race we begin to get a sense of who will be showing up to compete for the championship. We are expecting a competative womens run Additionally we have 2010's champion Leslie Semler and popular local runner and 2 time past champion Nikki Wilberforce. We have also heard through the running grapevine that additional elite women runners from the northern USA plan to make the trip north, so the womens field could be the most competative we have seen for some time. On the men's side, 3 time champion Gilbert Gilbert will be challenged this year by Paul Kimaiyo who recent won the Sun Run 10 km in Vancouver in a sizzling time of 29:02. Could the race record set back in 1975 be in jeopardy? Additionally, we have popular 5 time champion and local Thunder Bay Fire Fighter Jon Balabuck and 2012 3rd place finisher John Heitzman from Wisconsin toeing the line this year. AND we are extremely excited to announce that Arjan Gelling is coming! Arjan's name may not be familiar to all of our readers, however, he is a four time 10 Mile Road Race champion who’s first victory was 50 years ago to the day of this years running (on May 20 1963). He subsequently went on a distinguished running career at the University of North Dakota, where he is a hall of famer, and continues to be an accomplished runner to this day. His bib number in 1963 was 10 and we will be presenting Arjan with his 2013 number 10 bib at our spaghetti dinner. Come out and join in the celebration and meet a running icon.
