WELCOME TO TEN MILER NEWS!!

As of this year’s race, it will be one hundred and one years since the inaugural running of the Ten Mile Road Race to “promote healthy and clean sport” here at the head of the Great Lakes.  SOME THINGS DON'T CHANGE!

As we launch our second century, we’re looking for better ways to keep in touch with our running community and this newsletter is a means to that end. Through the newsletter, we’ll keep you abreast of developments regarding the upcoming race, as well as remind you of associated events and deadlines.

The Ten Miler is YOUR RACE, so if you become aware of news that others might like to hear, by all means, let us know and we’ll spread the word.  Furthermore, if there’s something you’d like to see in the newsletter, send us an e-mail and we’ll see what can be done to act on your suggestion.

GLAD TO HAVE YOU ALONG FOR THE RUN!

ONE OF 500 GREAT FOOT RACES

Harper-Collins Publishing in the United Kingdom is researching a book that will feature 500 great footraces worldwide.  They’ll be using text and credited photos from the Ten Miler website, and they’ve undertaken to provide us with a complimentary copy upon publication.  If one of your photos is selected for publication, we’ll be in touch.

CASH PRIZES FOR LOCAL RUNNERS

Cash prizes are in play again this year, and, for the first time, cash prizes [$250] will be awarded for the overall top male and female from northwest Ontario.

Nikki Wilberforce and Paul Carr shared those honours in the centennial 2010 race.

Also of note, the distribution of prize money for top overall finishers has been sweetened, with $1,000 for first, $600 for second place and $400 for third in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

FINISHER'S MEDALS FOR 2011

The finishers’ medals cast to celebrate the one hundredth year of the Ten Mile Road Race were so popular with runners that we’re preparing a fresh casting for our 101st year.

You can expect to be decorated with your medal as soon as you cross the finish line.

60-69 AGE CLASS SPLIT

The number of runners in their 60’s who participate in the Ten Mile Road Race is rapidly expanding.  In recognition of that growth, prizes will now be awarded for both a 60-64 and a 65-69 year age class.
