Adaptive and Para Athletes
NEW for 2026!
Adaptive Racing
Presented by Thunder Bay Orthopaedic

The Fire Fighters Ten Mile Road Race and Thunder Bay Orthopaedic are proud to introduce Adaptive and Para Athlete Race Categories, expanding our commitment to inclusion, safety, and community spirit. These categories are designed to support athletes with a range of abilities while ensuring everyone has the opportunity to participate fully and confidently.
Athletes may register in the category that best reflects their needs, and - where required - request a Guide or Support Runner promo code during registration. All guides and support runners must register and complete the event waiver before race day to ensure safety and compliance on the course.
All adaptive athletes must be able to complete the Fire Fighters Ten Mile Road Race within the three-hour time limit. Awards will be presented to the top three finishers in each category, and every registered participant will receive a finisher's medal at the finish line.
All Para Athletes can register through the Individual Runner Registration link in the top menu bar.
Visually Impaired Athletes
We encourage runners who are blind or visually impaired to register for the race under the Visually Impaired Athlete Category. There will be an opportunity for the runner to indicate whether they will require a Guide Runner to accompany them on the race course. The athlete will be able to submit the Guide Runner's email address at time of registration. After registering, if a Guide Runner is requested, the Guide Runner will be sent an email with a promo code to register for free. Guide Runners must register and read/sign the waiver form.
Visually Impaired Athletes and Guides will start at the 9:00 AM Individual Runners Start-Time.

Autonomous Athlete with Assistance
We encourage runners with physical or intellectual disability to register for the race under Autonomous Athlete Category. There will be an opportunity for the runner to indicate whether they will require a Support Runner who can assist during the event - to provide directions, help at aid stations, etc. The athlete will be able to submit the Support Runner's email address at time of registration. After registering, if a Support Runner is requested, the Support Runner will be sent an email with a promo code to register for free. Support Runners must register and read/sign the waiver form.
Autonomous Athletes and Support Runners will start at the 9:00 AM Individual Runners Start-Time.

Wheelchair Athletes
We encourage wheelchair athletes to register for the race under the Wheelchair Athletes Category.
For the safety of all participants, wheelchair athletes must follow the rules and regulations that apply to other participants and follow accepted runners etiquette in sharing the road. Wheelchairs must be safe and in good condition. They will be subject to inspection prior to starting the race.
Motorized wheelchairs are permitted so long as they are used at a pace safe for all participants on course. Athletes using motorized wheelchairs are not eligible for awards.
Athletes with either manual or motorized wheelchairs will start at the 8:50 AM Wheelchair Athlete Start-Time.
All athletes, guides, and support runners must be registered and wear an official bib on the race course during the event. These will be available at Kit Pick up.
